I think my first year average was 84.5%, because I recall thinking I'd missed Dean's List by about half a percent (I think I thought it was 85% and up) and thought, "Darn, how annoying," and then was pleasantly surprised to have an email congratulating me on making Dean's List show up one day. I suppose all of it depends on your year - being in the top fifteen percent or Dean's List in first year Arts basically means "hey, I made an appearance at 95% of my lectures and spent them taking good notes instead of going on Facebook, and put some time in to preparing for exams".
